It is recommended that you get a battery backup sump installed in your crawl space for extra protection against flooding and leaks. This could be from water coming up through the ground if you don’t have a floor liner in place, or it could be from moisture getting in through the crawl space skirt if you don’t have a vapor barrier installed. The backup unit will be activated if the main pump fails due to mechanical failure, or because of a power outage. The switch-over is all automatic, and you don’t have to worry about switching any levers or hitting any buttons to get the backup unit to work.
